Phantom Hourglass

Filed under: Fun & Games, Nintendo DS — John @ 1:04 pm

I beat Phantom Hourglass just now. It’s fun, and was worth it. I made a copy of my save file before going to beat the last boss, so I should sill be able to play some of the other aspects of it. There are a lot of different ship parts, and other treasues to find, so I’ll prolly keep playing it till I find them all.

Harvet Party Fun

Filed under: Fun & Games, General — John @ 11:26 am

Yesterday was the harvest party, and boy did I eat to much. I got to sample [info]evilviolist’s homemade blueberry mead, some great pies, some delicious chili, some great soups, bread, enchiladas, edamame, and a thousand other things I’m probably forgetting.
I think great fun was had by all though. I got to play a couple DS games with Jeremy. I would have liked to have played more, but there was to many other constraints on my time. I also got to play a rather fun game called “Martian Coasters”. I may have to look into getting it for game day when we start that again as it was pretty simple, and a lot of fun.
After people started leaving the last of us retired to the living room and sat and talked for another hour. [info]docdetroit was trying to teach Stacia to have a mean face, he technique involved repeated wackings with pillows. :-) I think we all finally left around 2 a.m. (pre time change) I was home and in bed by 1:50 a.m.

A thousand Thank You’s to [info]lifeonwry and for all their hard work in putting this annual event together.

You are The Emperor

Stability, power, protection, realization; a great person.

The Emperor is the great authority figure of the Tarot, so it represents
fathers, father-figures and employers. There is a lot of aggression and violence
too.

The Emperor naturally follows the Empress. Like an infant, he is filled with enthuiasm, energy, aggression. He is direct, guileless and all too often irresistible. Unfortunately, like a baby he can also be a tyrant. Impatient, demanding, controlling. In the best of circumstances, he signifies the leader that everyone wants to follow, sitting on a throne that indicates the solid foundation of an Empire he created, loves and rules with intelligence and enthusiasm. But that throne can also be a trap, a responsibility that has the Emperor feeling restless, bored and discontent.

You scored as Water, Your pentacle point is Water! You can adapt to any situation, are charismatic, fluid and vibrant but, like the tides, your emotions run high and low. You can be smooth and reflective like a summer pond on a clear day or tempestuous and unreadable like the stormy sea! It’s wierd to be me

Filed under: Fun & Games, General — John @ 1:21 pm

I swear I live a weird life…

We went for Chinese food to the newly opened restaurant down the road from work.   The food is average, we called ahead so it was ready when we got there.  When we finished we opened our fortune cookies.  My fortune read:

“Everything will now come your way.”

When we had all read our fortunes we notices there were extra cookies, so we divvied them up again.  Once the other fortunes had been read, I opened mine, and it read:

“Everything will now come your way.”

No one else got a duplicate… what the heck… and why exactly is everything coming my way?   If the universe is constantly expanding then does that mean I live in the outer limits?

  • ‘John’ Needs Operation After Hooker Bites P _ _ _ _

Wow Google, thanks…  Ok, so  lets say the quotes cause that answer to be tossed out…

  • John Needs Your Bone Marrow

Whats the deal… sheesh… can’t I need something normal, like say a roast beef sandwich or a bear spleen?

St Louis

Filed under: Fun & Games, General, Renaissance — John @ 11:39 am

Wow am I tired…

It was a very long weekend.  I left early from work Friday,  to head to St Louis for the closing weekend of the St. Louis Renaissance Festival.  Overall it was a good time.  Saturday was a hot one, and Sunday rained off and on all day.  The drive down wasn’t bad, I took me just about 5 hours, I had planned on meeting up with seeliejon on the road, but due to some stupidity on my part, and some semis in the way, I couldn’t get off at the planned rest stop.  Instead, I ended up meeting up with Ray while on the road.

After we arrived in St. Louis we checked in and proceeded to hold a cookout behind the hotel. Brats, veggie burgers, pasta salads, and assorted chips and things.  After it started getting dark, and buggy some of us went up and hung out in lifeonwrys hotel room goofing around until after 11 pm.

Saturday a was a bit of a scorcher, and like Bristol on such days, the patrons seemed to be in a daze… They were interested mostly in beer, and not much else.   I managed to get a few laughs out of people  by offering them great deals on shady seating.  “Today only! Free shady seating to people wearing __insert item of clothing here____”   “Act now and I will even throw in a Seelie Court show”

After faire a ton of us went to a local Chinese Buffet.   The food was decent, the service wasn’t terrible, but they really had no clue how many of us were there, and subsequently decided 5 people left without paying.
Sunday, on my way to the faire I was stopped by the local police. I was of course in full garb already… I have to wonder what the initial thoughts of the officer were when he looked in the car and saw me…  Thankfully he was very friendly, and decided to not give me a ticket as long as I promised to be more careful about my speed. We exchanged pleasantries, discussed the faire and the weather a bit and then he left.
The overall mood Sunday seemed melancholy.  Many of the cast  had attended the cast party the night before and had over indulged.  Toss in rain off and on all day and the fact that it was closing day, and things just seemed to be pretty low energy.  Getting audience to show up at te shows was hard too.  I did have one highlight interaction moment.  I saw a playful looking couple waling along away from the stage, and  decided to play with them.  I crept up along side them, and matched their pace in my pirate saunter…  I didn’t say a single word, just had a goofy smirk on my face… The guy and his lady kept shooting glances over at me… finally she snickered… so i chimed in to the guy, “So, where we goin?”  “I’m just following her…” “Oh really? So If I was to say turn her around like this (I moved over and gave her the opportunity to stop me, she grinned and didnt, so I turned her around 180 degrees) , you would continue to follow her?”  “Yeah, I guess so…”  “Great!”  So I steered her haphazardly towards the stage making him follow in nonsensical patterns… She was laughing the whole way… Finally I sat them down at the stage,a nd they actually sat and watched a few songs.   A little heavy handed I suppose, but they thought it was funny, it amused me, and when they did leave they saw me, grinned and waved bye.

The rest of the day progressed pretty slow going… few patrons… even fewer interested in the shows… just a lot of the “I’m wet and cold…” crowd.  By closing my feet were really starting to bother me and the general “its closing day” mood had pretty much permeated everything.
Over all it was a decent weekend though.  Got to hang out some with friends who  I hadn’t seen since last season, and other friends who decided on a whim to come down this weekend, and of course the friends I went with.

Port Washington Pirate Festival Highlights

Filed under: Accomplishments, Fun & Games, General, On the Road, Renaissance — John @ 8:02 pm

This past weekend was the Port Washington Pirate Festival. I, and a number of friends, volunteered to add some character to the street this year, as opposed to just attending last year. I have to say, I had an absolute BLAST.

The festival is growing quite well, and is certainly received well by the town and its inhabitants. New this year was a Fireworks show that really seemed to draw out a lot of people, despite the rainy weather.

I think I could hear the phrase “Look mommy!!! A REEEEEAALLLLL PIRATE!!!!” gushed in utter delight from a child a thousand more times and never come close to getting tired of it. I can’t even begin to count the number of pictures that I posed for with families.

Off and On both days Sarah and I teamed up to wander the lanes and play with the patrons. Read on for details

Super Paper Mario

Filed under: Fun & Games, General, Nintendo Wii — John @ 10:29 pm

I managed to finish Super Paper Mario tonight.  Total game play time of  just over 20 hours.   It seems, from the survey I got from Nintendo that I must have missed a number of things.  They asked about a pit of 1000 trials or something, but I never came across it.   I wonder if I beat it to fast, and didn’t have to do as many things because I did? I’ll have to look up a strategy guide, or walk through and see what they were talking about.   I really enjoyed the game though.  It held my attention when playing it, and was broken up into enough “chapters” that I could play a little and then put it down and not play for a few days, then pick right up where I left off.

WiiNight

Filed under: Fun & Games, General, Nintendo Wii, Work Stories — John @ 12:49 am

Tonight was another of our once a semester “Late Night at the Library” events.   This time, in addition to all the excitement of studying we added a little more fun.   One of the staff members brought in their Wii and we set it up to run off one of the  LCD projectors.   From the moment I turned it on, students came in, drawn by the sounds of the Wii.   We played Bowling, Tennis, Golf, and even threw in Rayman Raving Rabbits and raced the armadillos (or whatever they are).    Midnight hit in no time, and no one wanted to leave.   I don’t know how the rest of the event went, but the Wii room was a major hit.
I have a feeling I’ll be sore tomorrow from all the tennis.

MST3K Fans Rejoice!!!

Filed under: Fun & Games, General — John @ 10:45 am

I have missed MST3K for a very long time.  Yesterday, while trying to sort through the 20,000+ emails (no joke) in my halloween listserv folder, I stumbled upon a post that brought new light to a darkend corner of my life.    It seems Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy & Bill Corbett have a new venture called “RiffTrax“.   You go to the website, pay around $3 and download an MP3 of thier commentary for a video.  You then rent, or buy the video, pop it in your player and also start the RiffTrax MP3 playing.  You then have the hilarity of their commentary in movies they NEVER could have done as MST3K.   Just think Mike and company rip apart Star Wars: Episode 1!!!   Jar Jar doesn’t stand a chance!!!

So,  I’m thinking.. RiffTrax party!!!  Anyone interested?
