Super Paper Mario

Filed under: Fun & Games, General, Nintendo Wii — John @ 10:29 pm

I managed to finish Super Paper Mario tonight.  Total game play time of  just over 20 hours.   It seems, from the survey I got from Nintendo that I must have missed a number of things.  They asked about a pit of 1000 trials or something, but I never came across it.   I wonder if I beat it to fast, and didn’t have to do as many things because I did? I’ll have to look up a strategy guide, or walk through and see what they were talking about.   I really enjoyed the game though.  It held my attention when playing it, and was broken up into enough “chapters” that I could play a little and then put it down and not play for a few days, then pick right up where I left off.

Your Score: Jimmy Stewart

You scored 26% Tough, 4% Roguish, 42% Friendly, and 28% Charming!

You are the fun and friendly boy next door, the classic nice guy who still manages to get the girl most of the time. You’re every nice girl’s dreamboat, open and kind, nutty and charming, even a little mischievous at times, but always a real stand up guy. You’re dependable and forthright, and women are drawn to your reliability, even as they’re dazzled by your sense of adventure and fun. You try to be tough when you need to be, and will gladly stand up for any damsel in distress, but you’d rather catch a girl with a little bit of flair. Your leading ladies include Jean Arthur and Donna Reed, those sweet girl-next-door types.

Find out what kind of classic dame you’d make by taking the Classic Dames Test.

While waiting for something to finish up before going home I stumbled across this on someones blog.  I have no idea how accurate it is, but I found it fun.

On putting out fires…

Filed under: General, Work Stories — John @ 1:11 pm

Today while walking back to my building from the other side of campus I noticed smoke curling from a nearby bush.   I walked over to it to discover that the mulch below it was smoldering and had a 4 to 5 inch section fully burnt away.  Not feeling like causing a panic, I calmly approached the nearest secretary and asked her to call and inform someone about the fire at the end of the building.  After making the call she suggested if it was small enough that we should fill some buckets and dump on it.   So we did.    You have got to love the excitement around here.

Maggie and Dave’s Wedding

Filed under: General, Music — John @ 6:50 am

I had a great time Saturday night at Maggie and Dave’s wedding.  Lots of friends, lots of laughter, good food, and a surprise performance by Bounding Main.

Just for the record, I’m pretty sure that is the 1st time I’ve ever heard of anyone singing Drunken Sailor at a wedding. :-)

Also for the record, here are two wedding related verses I came up with:

  • Put her in a dress and stand her at the alter
  • Stick him in a tux and make him wed her

I only used the second one though because the 1st one popped into my head about 10 minutes after the song was over.  Should the need ever arise again though… hehehe…

A Sign

Filed under: General, Work Stories — John @ 1:47 pm

Today, I saw the funniest sign on the side of a car:

  • Piano Tuning
  • Law Consultation
  • Birdhouse Repair

“Serving your area for over 1 yr”

It makes me wish I had a piano…  I have a broken birdhouse, and with my family there’s always room for legal advice… :-)

TV and Movie BS

Filed under: General — John @ 9:57 pm

My number one pet peeve with TV and Movies has got to be the portrayal of fire suppression sprinklers in buildings.

Lets get this straight right now! STUPID TV LISTEN TO ME!!!

If you take a torch or other heat source to a sprinkler that sprinkler and ONLY that sprinkler will trigger. It will NOT trigger the whole damn building to dump water everywhere. First off, how the hell could that happen? A sprinkler is triggered when a low temperature material melts and opens a valve. That happens ONLY on that valve. Secondly, why the hell would an entire building trigger? The idea of a sprinkler is to put out a fire. There is a finite amount of water pressure in a sprinkler system, if you open every valve in a system the pressure would drop and very little water would get to the area that needs it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP THIS INSANITY!!!

* edit: 5/17 *

As a few people have pointed out to me, it triggers the zone, and that makes perfect sense. However my point was more that it triggered the entire building… on multiple floors…

Huh…

I have returned

Filed under: General, Music, On the Road, Renaissance — John @ 10:59 pm

I have returned from my TNRF trip. I don’t know that I have felt this welcome at a distant faire before. All sorts of people recognized our group and genuinely welcomed us back. “I’m so glad you came back! We’ve missed you.” Even the Queen herself made it a point to play with us a bit when she recognized us. I had an absolutely wonderful time, and made some new friends, renewed old friendships and just genuinely relaxed.

Kudos to all the cast, crew, and entertainment for their part in making this a wonderful weekend.

Deport

Filed under: General — John @ 6:13 am

So yesterday I made my first donation to the “Deport Bounding Main” campaign. It wasn’t a lot but every little bit helps.

Dinghy

I think it would be an incredible experience to go along to the festival myself. Perhaps if I do get a decent raise I would be able to put aside enough to afford it. Time will tell.

Evaluate

Filed under: General — John @ 6:13 am

Today is my yearly performance evaluation.   Should be interesting.   I don’t know if that’s why I didn’t sleep well last night, or if it was the warm weather. Perhaps it was the annoying bird sitting outside my window who decided that 4 a.m. was a good time to start looking for a mate.  “CREEE CAAAW TWEET TWEET”  every 10 seconds…

Good luck today with finals [info]kilted_behemoth, I am sure you will do fine though.  I have faith in you.
